South Dakota Pheasant Hunting Season

Well, the start of the South Dakota Pheasant hunting season is creeping up on us. All in and out of state hunters can begin hunting wild birds the third weekend of October. That'd be October 18 this year. We are seeing LOTS of birds at our lodge this year, we hunt all wild birds.
We are doing some remodeling around the lodge. Finally putting in a washer and dryer at the lodge, so I won't have to take everything to the laundry mat! Yeh!
The food plots look really good, should be lots of food and cover for the birds this winter.
The dogs are getting some practice with dove hunting.
We still have some openings if anyone is interested.

South Dakota Winter - Its Impact on the Pheasants

Many hunters have been asking, "How's the winter going, how's the bird population?" In South Dakota winter can be hard on the wild pheasant population, and can reduce numbers dramatically. I can't speak for the entire state, but the winter here in Kennebec and at Shooters Hunting Lodge has been pretty mild. We have had some of those bitterly cold days, but no ice storms or heavy snows that kill off the pheasants. So, from the looks of it, once again, we should have a large population of wild birds. Your hunting dogs will go crazy! So, if you are looking to come to South Dakota for some pheasant hunting, give us a call at Shooters Hunting Lodge, and we'll fix you up.
