South Dakota Winter - Its Impact on the Pheasants

Many hunters have been asking, "How's the winter going, how's the bird population?" In South Dakota winter can be hard on the wild pheasant population, and can reduce numbers dramatically. I can't speak for the entire state, but the winter here in Kennebec and at Shooters Hunting Lodge has been pretty mild. We have had some of those bitterly cold days, but no ice storms or heavy snows that kill off the pheasants. So, from the looks of it, once again, we should have a large population of wild birds. Your hunting dogs will go crazy! So, if you are looking to come to South Dakota for some pheasant hunting, give us a call at Shooters Hunting Lodge, and we'll fix you up. Shooters Hunting featured on hunting show for Fox network

Heath and Nicole Choal and Shooters Hunting Lodge were chosen by John Wilson, host of Fox hunting channel, Quail Ulimited, to do an show about pheasant hunting at their lodge in Kennebec, South Dakota. The show was shot the last weekend of the season, Jan. 5 & 6, 2008. It will air sometime in July 2008.

Heath and I very much enjoyed the opportunity to film a hunt for the Fox network. John, his co host Jerry Adams, and his camera crew were great and we had a blast. We inivted our guides Dana Edwards and Jeff Hanig to hunt with us while we filmed the hunt. Our yellow labs, Katie, Cody, and Cash did great, as did Dana's black lab, Blue.

According to the Steve Knight, head camera man and show producer, we can expect to see a video in June. Let us know if you'd like us to send ou a copy!
